Description

Opportunity for CEHC Students: You will have the opportunity to interact with emergency responders and emergency preparedness students from all over the country and learn valuable leadership skills by participating in the Missouri Hope three day disaster response field training exercise focused on leadership and followership, teamwork, confidence, and disaster response.

Details: CEHC students will participate in a three day immersive training in a disaster response exercise challenge designed to help students overcome fears and hone skills as emergency responders. Participants will work together in teams, rotating in and out of leadership positions, and are challenged with mass casualty situations, high angle rescues and water rescue operations.

You do NOT need to have any prior training or experience in emergency response and emergency preparedness. This opportunity is open to students with all levels of training.

WHO: Sponsored by the Consortium for Humanitarian Service and Education and the Northwest Missouri State University Emergency and Disaster Management Program for students, community members, and local and state responders.

WHAT: Three day disaster response field training exercise focused on:

  • Leadership and Followership
  • Teamwork and Confidence Building
  • Disaster Response and Medical Operations
  • Incident Command System and Interoperable Communications
  • Emergency Services Partner Agency Training

WHEN: October 13-15, 2017 (Lodging available on 12 October for out of town participants). Staff are required to arrive by 6:00 PM October 12 for staff training. CEHC students most likely will fly to Missouri on October 12th.

WHY: This domestic disaster response exercise challenges participants to overcome their fears and hone their skills as emergency responders. Participants work together in teams where they rotate leadership positions and are challenged with mass casualty situations, high angle rescues, and water rescue operations.

There are VERY limited spaces available for this highly competetive training program. PLease be thoughful in your application submission.

Training Credit: 30 Hours

Students are required to cover their costs of participation. Registration is $130 per student. Flight estimates are currently approx. $400. Selected students will work with the Director of Experiential Learning and External Partners to finalize flights and students will be expected to travel together.
