In the documentary Miss Representation, writer/director Jennifer Siebel Newsom interweaves teenage girls’ stories with provocative interviews with Condoleezza Rice, Lisa Ling, Nancy Pelosi, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, and Gloria Steinem. This close look at contemporary media and its powerful messages reveal that another generation is learning how a woman’s primary value lies in her youth, beauty and sexuality—and not in her capacity as a leader—making it difficult for women to obtain leadership positions and for girls to reach their full potential. This movie aims to re-energize a movement that will help young women in the future to never have conversations about disparate treatment in the future.
