Learn how to write like the masters of fiction and non-fiction in three virtual writing workshops.
About this event
It’s well-known writerly advice that one of the best ways to improve your writing is to read — a lot — and especially to read the masters. It’s also said that simply reading isn’t enough — you need to read like a writer. There’s even a book by that title! But what does reading like a writer mean, exactly, and … if you can learn from reading the masters what about trying your hand at writing like them? Painters copy masters’ works in art classes. Writers can learn a great deal by doing the same.
Join us for a three-week virtual series with memoirist Diane Gottlieb on Mondays, Sept. 13, 20 and 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Before each session you will receive an email with a short masterful work to read. We will explore both masters in fiction and non-fiction. During class we will practice reading like writers by reviewing the story together, and then we’ll do generative writing exercises. By mirroring the master’s style, we’ll discover wonderful new aspects of our own!
This series is for memoir, non-fiction and fiction writers of all levels — beginners and masters welcome!

The 3-week series is $120.
