MIRA: An Immersive Film Exhibition and Gala
Event Information
About this event
“Mira, Mira! Look and see
what prowls the land but comes from sea.
They dance above, while deep below
The lost souls sink where light wont go
Mira, Mira! Please take heed
the water’s edge is where they feed.
From claws and jaws to undertow,
beware the things that wait below!”
A delightfully sinister evening awaits you at Upside Bungee in the historic Kansas City West Bottoms...
From the river banks, canals and dark waters of Mira's world come haunting characters seeking to claim lost and wandering souls for their own. Guests must heed these grim warnings and take care, for after the sun sets these monsters will come to call.
This event will feature performing artists embodying different monstrous archetypes inspired from the world of the film, engaging guests in immersive theatrical experiences. Play their games and bask in their dark beauty but beware - not all of our guests will survive the night.
Installations by Rachel Eilts, Chris Dong, and Eva Louise Hall will transform the space into a dark visual spectacle. The film itself will be screened and the props and sets from the production will be exhibited. ‘Mira’ musical director and composer Calvin Arsenia will grace our musical stage so sing to all of his Lost Souls. This exhibition aims to put on display the immense talent and artistry that went into making a film like this possible.
Come prepared to participate! The highly encouraged dress code for this watery gala is sea demon casual with a hint of wicked whimsy. We also deeply appreciate dark, nautical horror. Dress to impress our monstrous guests and you will be rewarded.
EVENT SCHEDULE:
7:30 - 9:30 - Immersive Theater Experience accompanied by the dark, rhythmic musings of DJ Lady Severe
9:30 - 'Mira' Film Premiere
10:00 - A Post Mortem Wake facilitated by Calvin Arsenia and DJ Stevie Cruz
ABOUT THE FILM:
'Mira' is a stop-motion animated surrealist horror short film created by Eva Louise Hall (KCMO). It is a cautionary tale about a struggling accordionist who seeks recognition from a charismatic otherworldly singer whose success lies in harming and manipulating others for her own personal gain. Mira's inability to see through her guest's facade proves to have monstrous consequences once Lore shows her true sinister nature, that she is not the musical ally that she initially presents to Mira but a water demon who needs to scavenge and carve out a place for herself by taking advantage of others.
