Event description

Description

My family came to San Francisco, and the Bay Area, from Port Arthur, Texas. They were part of a wave of Southerners in the Great Migration that decided to set out for a place that they could call their own. Juneteenth, celebrated every year on June 19th, marks the 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in that very state; Texas. For me, it's a time to reflect, to gather with family and both to celebrate what we have achieved and to take note of all that remains to be done.

We would like to invite the Bay Area community to join us for a sit-down, family-style supper service to mark Juneteenth and also to celebrate the signing of a multi-year lease for my business at the Emeryville Public Market. I've invited some of my favorite chef collaborators for the dinner, and some of my most respected community to share some of their perspectives on Juneteenth and what it means to be black in the Bay.

Menu details are forthcoming, as well as speaker information. All profits will be donated to Dusty's Fishing Well, in support of their work with black youth in the Bay Area. I hope that you will join me.
