Join us as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 with a series of events that will be organized throughout the Twin Cities area.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 has served as a vital piece of legislation within United States. For forty-nine years, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 has protected citizens from being discriminated against based upon race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. July 2, 2014, marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This year’s celebratory theme is, Summer of Civil Rights: Celebrate the Milestones, Living the Legacy, Strive for the Future.
A planning committee has been formed to organize the events. The committee is comprised of city, state, and federal officials, human/civil rights organization leaders, and community members.
The Opening Event:
The Summer of Civil Rights events will kick off on June 24th on the Capitol grounds in St. Paul starting at 5:00pm. This event will honor the past civil rights leaders and activist in Minnesota who have laid the foundation for the civil rights movement in Minnesota.
This event is open to the public.
