Synopsis:

The University of St. Thomas is finalizing the installation of a Microgrid, serving as a platform for power systems engineering and testing for both students and industry. Microgrids are exciting concepts combining renewable energy sources, power electronics, and electric power systems.

The discussion will include topics such as: what the Microgrid Research Center is all about, why it is important, regulatory changes & challenges, and what the future may be in the evolving grid power technology.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Kabalan currently serves as the Director of the University of St. Thomas Migrogrid Research Center. He is passionate about using renewable energy sources as a means for a sustainable and just future. Prior to joining St. Thomas, Mahmoud was a visiting assistant professor at Villanova University, Pennsylvania. He was awarded the 2016 IEEE Philadelphia Young Electrical Engineer of the Year Award. He has authored multiple journal and conference proceedings publications. Mahmoud co-founded LitingPower, a social enterprise that aimed to electrify rural communities in the Philippines in 2012. He holds a PhD degree in Engineering and was presented with the College of Engineering Outstanding Doctoral Student Award from Villanova University.
