Description

GROUND WAR is the newest pesticide documentary, and a timely one as more cities and towns are rejecting Roundup and other toxic pesticides in their parks and public spaces. Filmmaker Andrew Nisker's investigation into the death of his father takes him deep into the world of golf, chemical lobbying, and citizen activism, where he learns that the rampant use of pesticides around the world may be far more damaging than he thought. What chance do we have at creating a safer world for ourselves and our children? The answer may lay with the incredible people he encounters along his journey.

Pesticide use in Minneapolis parks, schools and public spaces is being hotly debated, as the City is set to launch a pilot program to transition chemically managed sites to organic practices. The film is particularly timely with public controversy about the use of the weedkiller glyphosate (Roundup) and two lawsuits with multimillion dollar jury verdicts this summer for compensation and punitive damages against its manufacturer, Monsanto (Bayer)—while thousands of lawsuits are still pending.

After the screening, there will be a panel discussion with the filmmaker, Andrew Nisker as well national advocate Jay Feldman of Beyond Pesticides, organic turfgrass expert Chip Osborne, local advocate Russ Henry of Bee Safe Minneapolis.
