Minhwa (Korean Folk Painting) Workshops
Event Information
About this event
Welcome to our new Korean art workshop series, Minhwa Workshop: Discover the beauty of 4 seasons with Minhwa! We're pleased to announce that KCI Board member and Minhwa artist, Kate Nam, will be presenting a series of 4 Minhwa drawing workshops throughout the year 2021. Each workshop of the series will be provided in 2 repeated sessions to better accommodate your schedule. The workshop will be limited to 5 ppl at each time to maximize your learning experience. Throughout the series, each person will be able to participate in up to 2 workshops.
The first workshop of the series is called Spring edition, Peony. During the first workshop of the series, participants will learn how to draw a peony. Peony is a symbol of Spring that represents prosperity and wealth and is one of the most popular subjects in Minhwa. It was often drawn on the folding screens in the Queen's or female royal members' room. Workshop participants will paint a Minhwa on Korean traditional fiber paper specially treated and glued on a wooden panel. Once completed, you can utilize your own Minwha work to decorate your room in Springtime. The session will run for approximately an hour.
Kate prepared Minhwa starter kits that can be purchased on her website. Registered participants will be required to purchase the kit to participate in the workshop.
