Event description

Description

Join us for an afternoon of Minecraft with other elementary aged children! Minecraft provides an opportunity for children to learn from other children, boosting their confidence and providing a teaching opportunity. We have limited accounts available for multiplayer. If you have a Minecraft account, please bring the login information to allow us to create larger multiplayer games. There will be an intermission halfway to get up and move around. Food and drink are not allowed in the lab.

Kids playing Minecraft

The technology lab at Montessori Renaissance Academy is a safe place for children to gather and experience technology. Our strategy focuses on allowing children to learn and explore individually or in groups, with an occasional nudge to help steer them away from pitfalls and into the right direction. Instructors are guides, not lecturers, and will encourage children to challenge themselves during each session in the lab. Children are encouraged to be curious and are pushed to try new things outside of their comfort zone. Most importantly, children learn that mistakes and failures are ok as long as you learn something from them.

Minecraft may seem like just a video game, but it is also an opportunity for children to exercise their creativity and to socialize with friends. Children can create art and architecture, or work as a team to vanquish monsters. Without supervision, multiplayer Minecraft can devolve into bullying or popularity contests, so we provide a safe, supervised setting for children to play together.
