About this Event

Join us for an evening of conversation and cocktails

  • COMMEMORATE the 25th anniversary of The 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda
  • LEARN about MindLeaps' refugee work from African instructor Evelyne Mukashyaka
  • MEET Aboubakar - the first MindLeaps Rwandan student to come to the USA!

Kwibuka means ‘to remember’ in Kinyarwanda and describes the annual commemoration of The 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda. This year marks the 25th commemoration of The 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi.

The evening will include a discussion with Evelyne Mukashyaka, a dance and health teacher from MindLeaps Rwanda. Evelyne has worked in Kiziba Refugee Camp and is currently in Mauritania, West Africa. Evelyne will join us via video in a conversation with MindLeaps Board member Kathleen Bakarich.

You will learn about the impact of the MindLeaps program on young lives directly from one of our students. Aboubakar is a student from MindLeaps Rwanda who joined the program in 2015. After a year in the MindLeaps program, he discovered his love of learning and returned to school. Meet him in person at this special event!

Drinks and light appetizers are included in the ticket price. Admission is complimentary for active MindLeaps DreamMakers.
