Overview

'Mindfulness: Theory and Practice for Schools' is NESA accredited workshop that counts for 14 hours of Professional Development at the level of Proficient Teacher.


In this two-day workshop, you will
 explore the variety of applications of mindfulness in the school environment and learn how teachers can use mindfulness in the creation and maintenance of supportive, safe and effective learning environments.

'Mindfulness: Theory and Practice for Schools' explores the theoretical foundations for mindfulness practice as well as the practical and experiential methods and techniques of meditation.

Teachers will explore several techniques and their application in the school environment, examining how to use each technique in the following areas:

  • Behavioural management
  • Student well-being
  • Teaching techniques/lesson craft
  • Fostering positive environments
  • Conflict resolution
  • Teacher well-being
  • Promotion of harmonious, balanced and productive environments

Workshop dates: 24 - 25 March 2018; OR 15 - 16 September 2018
Duration: 9 am - 5 pm (Sat. - Sun.)
Cost: $290 pp (group bookings above 5 attendees = $250 pp)

What is Mindfulness? 

Mindfulness is a transformative and experiential life skill, which develops:

  • Taming and shaping your mind in tune with your body
  • Strong / clear cognition
  • Collectedness – a foundation for recollection
  • Non-interfering

Your Teacher

Catherine Ramos - Mindfulness for Schools Teacher

 

Catherine Ramos has been a high school teacher with the Department of Education for over 20 years. She has a Graduate Certificate in Applied Buddhist Studies, and also holds a Bachelor of Education in English and History.

 

Catherine has been conducting a research project on 'Mindfulness in High Schools' with the objective of establishing the effectiveness of mindfulness and loving-kindness training on Year 10-12 students in the school environment.

 

Accreditation

Completing Mindfulness: Theory and Practice for Schools will contribute 14 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 1.1.2, 1.2.2, 1.3.2, 4.1.2, 4.2.2, 4.3.2, 4.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

 

The Venue

Nan Tien Institute operates from its own, state-of-the-art Campus, opposite the Nan Tien Temple – the largest Buddhist Temple in the Southern Hemisphere.

This location fosters an environment for holistic learning, allowing students to contribute to the advancement and integration of knowledge, culture and ethical understanding.
