Event description

We need time away from responsibility, demands, and chaos to restore our sense of self, inspire creativity, and deepen our experience of peace and connection.

These retreats will be spent engaging in mindfulness and meditation outdoors in the natural beauty of Des Moines. There will be time to relish in the silence outdoors and opportunity to explore and discuss personal experiences with practice of finding inner calm and balance. We all need some space to calm the mind. Give yourself permission to intentially engage in practices that encourage balanced, calm minds and bodies. I believe by cultivating an inner quiet and open curious spirit outdoors, we can learn from nature how to be still, deepen connections with the self and others, and enter life with appreciation and gratitude. Life is full of external distractions which can detract us from going inward to find calm, balance, and our authentic self. I strongly affirm when we practice inward reflection and awareness, we will be much more informed on how to bring our genuine, authentic self to relationships and the world around us. When we intentionally act out of knowing the self versus merely reacting over and over again to external stimuni with little awareness, we feel present, calm, balanced, healthy, and controlled. Mindfulness and meditation are practices to help us look inward. I have found the natural enviornment is such a meaningful space to engage in these practices, largely due to the absence of external distractions. Without the day-to-day disctractions, we are left with the natural world present around us and the beautiful self waiting to be known and understood. Two experiential retreats are being offered. They will include nature-based meditations and talks on mindfulness and nature.

****IMPORTANT: These retreats are not intended for individual therapeutic purposes. While we will be engaging in some group discussion about the self, it is not the purpose of these retreats to serve as individual or group therapy. I will be most happy to help you think through mental health services if you need assistance outside of the retreat experience. Please ensure you feel you are in an emotional state to be able to engage in the purposes of the mindfulness retreat. If you feel you need indiviudal mental health services, know there is help available in our wonderful community. Please let me know if you need any community resources, as I would whole-heartedly love to point you in the direction for services to help you move toward health and healing.
