About this Event

Mindfulness for Women: Declutter Your Mind, Simplify Your Life, Find Time to 'Be'

March 8 – April 4

Multiple demands, too little time, the juggling act to do it all – and be it all – means that women are under unprecedented pressure. Adopting the simple practices in this course can help busy women from all walks of life to feel happier, less stressed and more content.

Given your already lengthy to-do list, you're probably thinking, how on earth can mindfulness make me calmer – and what is it anyway? It is perhaps easiest to think of mindfulness simply as an ability to be quiet, calm and still in your inner and outer worlds. It is as if you are sitting on a ledge behind the waterfall of life, still and calm, rather than having the waterfall crashing on your head and sweeping you helplessly away.

Yes, the waterfall (life) is still pouring endlessly by, but you are no longer at its mercy. On that ledge, you are in control. You can learn to look 'at' your thoughts, not 'from' them. You can learn to be still and calm in your body. You can learn to 'respond rather than react' to what life throws at you, and that is the key to finding a sense of calm and happiness.

Mindfulness also includes love and compassion and ‘Mindfulness for Women’ teaches you how to cultivate these beautiful qualities. As you do so, you will have an increasingly beneficial effect on the people you encounter in your life. There is a wonderful saying ‘awareness is revolutionary’ and by following this program you will join a social revolution that starts with your own mind and heart. You’ll learn to seize the moment to become a force for good and to embody the change they want to see in the world.

About the Course Instructor

Vidyamala Burch learned to meditate in 1985 and has been a dedicated practitioner since that time. In 1995 she was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order and in 2001 founded Breathworks, an organisation offering mindfulness and compassion to people suffering from pain, illness and stress. Breathworks grew out of Vidyamala’s personal experience of living with chronic pain, following spinal injuries and surgery in her teens. There are Breathworks teachers in over 25 countries.

Vidyamala co-authored Mindfulness for Women in 2015 as a tribute to all the strong pioneering women in her heritage as a New Zealander. She is dedicated to helping all women find inner strength and to realise their potential.

Vidyamala specializes in mindfulness, compassion and Buddhist retreats and workshops. She also teaches and speaks internationally. She is the co-author, with Claire Irvin of Mindfulness for Women: Declutter Your Mind, Simplify Your Life, Find Time To ‘Be’. She is co-author, with Danny Penman, of the best selling and British Medical Association award-winning Mindfulness for Health – a practical guide to relieving pain, reducing stress and restoring well-being. She is also the author of Living well with Pain and Illness – The Mindful Way To Free Yourself From Suffering, and has published a number of guided meditation CDs and DVDs.
