Scholarly research indicates that mindfulness practice decreases stress and anxiety, increases attention, improves interpersonal relationships, and strengthens compassion.. Most children can benefit from training that targets these area and outcomes may stretch far beyond early childhood. For example, social skills as early as kindergarten predict improved education, employment, crime, substance abuse and mental health outcomes in adulthood (Jones, Greenberg & Crowley, 2015).
As a graduate of the Mindful Schools Educator training and a personal practitioner of mindfulness, Dr. Suarino will guide your child in an 8-week program that promotes self-awareness, concentration, and mind-body connection. At the end of the program, your child will know to use these tools and practice mindfulness in everyday life
Dr. Suarino currently works full time as a school psychologist and therefore possesses a unique understanding of the strengths and challenges of children with disabilities. She also provides support for a diverse population of children that do not meet clinical criteria, but require support in skill-building to reach optimal functioning in and outside of school. At Abrams Psychological Services, Dr. Suarino is available to provide individual and group counselling to children and adolescents to address a variety of issues including symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and post-traumatic stress. She also offers family therapy services, and as a new member of the A.P.S. team, hopes to establish support groups for parents and family members of individuals with disabilities through community outreach.
