About this event
Cultivating mindfulness and meditation increases resilience, self-acceptance and contentment and reduces symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. For mental health clinicians these benefits can support wellness, minimize burnout and provide a foundation for incorporating mindfulness and meditation into clinical practice. This experiential workshop will be nurturing and resourceful whether you are new to mindfulness or are seeking to reconnect with or deepen your practice. For those who are interested in the upcoming full 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course January – March 2023 this workshop will provide an extended orientation.
During this 2-week live online experiential workshop participants will learn:
- Formal and informal mindfulness and meditation practices
- Potential benefits and risks of mindfulness and meditation
- Tools for developing and maintaining a personal mindfulness practice
- The science behind mindfulness and its effects on physical and mental health
- The benefits of both implicit and explicit uses of mindfulness in clinical work
At the completion of the workshop participants will be able to:
- Define mindfulness
- Describe the potential benefits and research supporting mindfulness practice
- Describe how mindfulness practices can enhance therapeutic presence
- Describe how to begin to apply mindfulness practice in therapy sessions
3 CECs are available for New York State Licensed LMSWs/LCSWs, LMFTs, LMHCs, and LCATs. Attendance at both workshops is required.
