Description

Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) an eight-week evidence-based program that offers intensive mindfulness training to assist people with stress, anxiety, depression and pain will be offered in Abilene beginning on Wednesday, September 18.

MBSR was developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the 1970s by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn. MBSR uses a combination of mindfulness, meditation, body awareness, yoga exploration of patterns of behavior, thinking, feeling and action.

Over the past twenty years MBSR has been the subject of nearly 2,000 controlled clinical research projects. The research suggests that MBSR may have beneficial effects, including stress reduction, relaxation, and improvements to quality of life such as stress and pain reduction, but that it does not help prevent or cure disease. Effectiveness was found to be impacted by daily practice and attendance.

Sessions will be led by Diana E. Gallego an experienced meditator of over 40 years and a certified MBSR leader.

The secular program is open to the public free of charge and all spiritual traditions and religions are welcome.
