Event description

Description

What is MBSR?
The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., (featured on the Bill Moyers PBS special, “Healing and the Mind.”) in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. MBSR is one of the most heavily research mindfulness programs with over 30 years of research supporting its benefits.

MBSR participants report they are better able to manage stress, fear, anger, anxiety, depression, and pain. Today, clinical research and neuroscience show us why mindfulness meditation practices are so effective, which has accelerated its use in medical centers, universities, and schools.

What is Mindfulness?
Jon Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as: “The awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment.”

Mindfulness is about living our lives as if they really matter. Increasing our awareness of moment-to-moment experiences without judgment. The more we become aware of what’s truly important we begin to live deliberately instead of on autopilot. Rather than reacting out of habit, we learn to respond to pressures of life more effectively. We learn to become present to our body, our thoughts, and our emotions. We begin to use our inner resources to manage stress, pain, and illness.

Who is MBSR for?
Anyone that wants to create more balance, peace, and happiness in their life. Those searching for a gentle, non-judgmental way to work with stress and pain. Individuals that seek a secular research-based program. This class provides 26 continuing education credits for healthcare professionals.
