About this event


An 8-week introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for mental health practitioners interested in learning about MBSR and incorporating techniques of mindfulness into their clinical practices/settings.

MBSR was established by Jon Kabat-Zinn 40 years ago in a clinical setting at the University of Massachusetts. As an experiential, evidence-based program, it is designed to give participants intensive and systematic training in meditation, Mindfulness, movement practices, education about the effects and characteristics of perception, physical and psychological stress, resilience, and conscious communication.


Research for the past 40 years in Mindfulness-based training has shown positive results associated with mental health-related conditions including increased self-observation, attention and concentration, emotional regulation, and stress resilience. Multiple scientific studies corroborate the benefits related to the reduction in symptoms in some behavioral conditions and physical health, including anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, the ability and creativity to make decisions, better sleep, improved stress management, and heightened cognitive abilities.

This course is for:

Clinicians and practitioners who work in the mental health field, whether in institutional settings, nonprofit organizations, or private practice.

Thursday mornings, 10:00 am - 12:30 pm Eastern Time


November 7, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Eastern Time


Weekly meetings will take place via Zoom; the day retreat will also be online with a possible in-person option for those in NYC.

About the Facilitator:

This course will be led by Dh. Ananta, an Ordained Buddhist, and qualified MBSR instructor (Brown University) and yoga teacher, with over 25 years of mindfulness practice and 15 years teaching experience. He has averaged two-to-three months of retreat per year for over twenty years. He recently taught MBSR to under-served communities as part of a fellowship with the Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) to address the mental health pandemic.
