About this event

What:

This is a 10-week introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for mental health clinicians interested in learning about MBSR and incorporating techniques of mindfulness into their clinical practices/settings.

MBSR was established by Jon Kabat-Zinn 40 years ago in a clinical setting at the University of Massachusetts. As an experiential, evidence-based program, it is designed to give participants intensive and systematic training in meditation, Mindfulness, movement practices, education about the effects and characteristics of perception, physical and psychological stress, resilience, and conscious communication.

Why:

Research for the past 40 years in Mindfulness-based training has shown positive results associated with mental health-related conditions including increased self-observation, attention and concentration, emotional regulation, and stress resilience. Multiple scientific studies corroborate the benefits related to the reduction in symptoms in some behavioral conditions and physical health, including anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, the ability and creativity to make decisions, better sleep, improved stress management, and heightened cognitive abilities.

This course is for:

Clinicians and practitioners who work in the mental health field, whether in institutional settings, nonprofit organizations, or private practice.

30 CECs available to NYSED certified LMSWs, LCSWs, LMFTs, LMHCs and LCATs, as well as clergy, chaplains, and others working in the mental health field.
