Event description

Description

MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) is an evidence-based, intensive dive into mindfulness meditation, designed to provide tools to better manage stress, physical and mental pain, and difficult emotions. In this course we access and cultivate our natural capacity to actively engage in caring for ourselves. By intentionally practicing living more and more in the present moment, we can find greater balance, ease, joy, and inner-peace. Developed at UMass Medical school by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR is proven to be effective in helping to treat anxiety, depression, and other conditions when used as a complement to traditional medical and psychological treatments.

This course requires a full commitment of the participant to practice formal and informal mindfulness each day for eight weeks.

This course meets for eight consecutive Wednesdays from 6:15 - 8:45 PM: 1/3, 1/10, 1/17, 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, as well as a one-day silent retreat, on Saturday, 2/10, from 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM.

All classes meet at the Humanist Hub on 30 JFK St, Cambridge, MA.

*Note: please choose a ticket price that reflects your needs. Please note that the true cost of the course, which pays rent on the space and a living wage to the facilitator, is $300. If you are able to give more, you help scholarships for low-income folks and students who cannot afford the full cost.

About the facilitator, Shea Riester: Shea is a UMass Medical School trained and qualified MBSR teacher who has a deep passion for working to relieve our interconnected suffering through group mindfulness practice and community. Shea has been practicing mindfulness daily for 9 years and teaching for 3 years. He has taught and facilitated mindfulness workshops in dozens of public schools, community centers and non-profits. Shea is currently a resident at the Cambridge Zen Center.

If you have questions about this program or the cost, please contact Shea: sheariester@gmail.com; 857-756-3730.

Thank you, and looking forward to practicing with you. :)
