Event Details

Join MindfulNYU and MBSR Certified instructor Judy Bernstein, PsyD. for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), the eight-week course developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness.

Mindfulness is the awareness that is cultivated by paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, with affection. MBSR uses mindful movement, meditation, group discussion, and inquiry to teach students how to use mindfulness to relate differently to stress. The course teaches practical ways to integrate mindfulness into daily life and build and sustain a personal mindfulness practice.

Classes will be held for 9 consecutive weeks (week 1 is a mandatory orientation) on Thursdays from 6:00-8:30pm, March 23rd to May 18th 2017 on New York University’s campus off of Washington Square Park. A required daylong retreat will happen from 10-5pm on May 6th.

Registration is required. The cost is $395 which includes all classes, materials, yoga mat rental and a daylong retreat.

About the Instructor:

Judy Bernstein is a certified MBSR teacher and licensed psychologist in both NY and NJ, whose passion for instruction emerges from her experience of mindfulness practices as a balanced and true method for alleviating suffering and for cultivating health, happiness, and compassion. In 2006, Judy began training as an MBSR instructor through the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School. Since then she has been teaching the traditional 8-week MBSR course in NJ and NY. Additionally she integrates mindfulness practices into her clinical work as a psychologist treating children, adolescents, and adults.
Her greatest joy in teaching is witnessing ways in which participants are transformed by the course, particularly by how the power of mindfulness practices increases practitioners’ confidence in their own capacity to attune to their emotional and physical well being, and to care for themselves with kindness and wisdom. Additionally, she has been studying and practicing ways in which psychotherapy and meditation intersect and diverge since 2000. Her understanding of mind body integration is further deepened by more than 30 years studying and practicing yoga.
