Event description

Description

If you spend Monday through Friday glued to a glowing screen, take a few hours for some device detox! We’ll use mindfulness techniques to sharpen our focus and enhance our sketching practice. There will be an emphasis on observation, composition, and mark-making. This class will include indoor exercises as well as outdoor sketching, weather permitting. Bring your favorite portable drawing tools (suggest including a waterproof black fineliner + assorted markers or colored pencils/small watercolor kit), and a sketchbook (preferably mixed-media weight paper).

We’ll cover how to:

  • Be present and get looser when drawing

  • Zoom in and out to select subjects

  • Consider different compositions

  • Observe and record using multiple senses

  • Break down complex scenes into essential elements

  • Use color to accent your line drawings
