Mindful Outdoors - Mindful Meditation & 3 Hour Hike, The Thames Path
Sun, June 4, 2017, 10:45 AM – 3:00 PM BST
A day of mindfulness meditation and great hiking along the capital’s most breathtaking footpath, the Thames Towpath.
We’ll start the day in one of our most unique meditation venues yet, a traditional yurt located in Spitalfields City Farm, a short distance from Liverpool Street Station and Shoreditch High Street. The only Yurt in East London, it comes complete with all the sounds of the Farm Yard.
After a formal group meditation and a bite to eat, we’ll head south along Brick Lane, through the buzzy Sunday markets into the city’s financial district until we hit the River. Heading East we pass the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and then leave the tourists behind as we explore St Katherine’s docks, Wapping and Tobacco Dock.
Following Wapping’s hidden backstreets, canals and basins we emerge once again on the Thames Path, greeted with what might be some of the best and most underrated views in the city, the skyline of Canary Wharf set across the River Thames.
We cross the River south via the Greenwich Foot Tunnel. Exploring Greenwich we pass the Cutty Sark, The Naval College and the Maritime Museum before entering the Royal Park and ascending the hill towards the Royal Observatory.
We’re treated to even more amazing views from its summit before continuing south across the heath and finally finishing at Blackheath Station.

Tell me more about the group meditation?
The group meditation will take place in the Yurt at Spitalfields City Farm, surrounded by nature and farm yard animals and dappled in natural sunlight it’s ideal for connecting with the breath. We have chairs.
What is mindful hiking?
The hiking portion of the day is just like any other type of hiking. We do not walk at snail’s pace as in walking meditation. We merely carry the mindfulness we cultivate in the group sitting meditation with us on the hike, focusing on the present moment as we enjoy the sounds, sights and smells – and as we get to know one another.
How tough is the hiking?
It’s moderate. Largely flat with a decent hill in Greenwich Royal Park.
What is lunch?
Light and simple, lunch will consist of pitta and dips, fresh fruit, salads, nuts and other energy snacks.
What if it’s raining?
‘There is no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothes’ – Please come equipped. Hiking in the rain when properly clad in waterproof clothing can be as relaxing, pleasant and as a mindful as any sunny day. We listen to the rain drops as we hike – step by step, breath by breath.
