An introduction to mindful exercise and mindfulness meditation with NYC based instructors Helen Phelan and Kirat Randhawa

About this event

Explore the importance and the impact of enhancing the mind body connection in this 60 minute workshop with NYC based pilates instructor and creator of digital pilates platform, Helen Phelan Studio, and NYC based meditation leader, Kirat Randhawa.

This workshop will be in 3 parts: a 30 minute express Helen Phelan Studio signature intuitive pilates workout to physically ground and relieve all over tension, a 15 minute guided meditation with Kirat to find calm and relieve mental stress, and a 15 minute Q+A with the facilitators for the audience to pick their brain on all things mindfulness, movement, and the link between the mental and physical.

This event is free, but we do suggest a donation to The Loveland Foundation Therapy Fund For Black Women and Girls of $5-25 if you are able.

Your Instructors:

Kirat Randhawa

Kirat is a New York City based meditation instructor and inspired student of Tibetan Buddhism. Her personal journey and deep course of study has led her to craft a pathway to guide others in personal development, conscious exploration, transformational practices, and life’s shifts.

Through her studies at Columbia University and The Nalanda Institute, Kirat merges contemplative training with the field of psychology to identify how these practices can be used as instruments for individual and societal change. From her research at The Contemplative Sciences Center at the University of Virginia to working with underserved communities across the city, she seeks to understand and deconstruct the multilayered conditioning that prohibits human flourishing.

Her training at The Tibet House, MNDFL Meditation, and in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction lineage has allowed her to develop a multidimensional approach to support clients on their path toward greater alignment and joy.

Helen Phelan

Helen Phelan is a body neutral intuitive pilates instructor and founder of digital pilates and mindful fitness platform, Helen Phelan Studio. As an ex professional dancer and eating disorder survivor, Helen's approach to exercise is based on her lived experience that diet culture and the no excuses mindset keeps people stuck in a bad body image loop that makes them dread movement- despite its mood and energy boosting benefits.

She refined her methodology so that it could not only fit into her life in a non-harmful way post recovery, but to support others heal their relationships with movement and their own bodies + feel strong, empowered with intuitive exercise. She works with clients 1:1, in groups, and through her on demand platform to help people stop thinking of exercise as a way to burn off food and instead as a self-care tool to feel your best, both mentally and physically.

She's been featured in InStyle, HuffingtonPost, Well+Good, Coveteur, MindBodyGreen and when not on her mat, Helen is often found rewatching musicals, snuggling with her rescue pup, or hiking in the Catskills.
