If you've ever filled up your lunch or dinner plate piled high with food, looked down at it minutes later noticing that it's empty, and end up wondering where it all went, know that you are not alone. Many of us have adopted multi-tasking in every aspect of our lives, even when we eat: consuming information or entertainment as we consume food that fuels our bodies, and not paying much attention to the process from start to finish. This mindless eating can reek havoc on our minds, bodies and spirits. If you have found yourself eating mindlessly, or want to learn how to nourish yourself with self-care alternatives, this class is for you!
In this 8-Week course participants will gain insight into their eating behaviors, bring mindfulness to their relationship with food, and become more aware of their appetite needs and how to meet them. The curriculum is based on the book "Mindful Eating: A Guide to Rediscovering a Healthy and Joyful Relationship with Food,' by Jan Chozen Bays, MD. The program is a therapeutic tool that draws from Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
In this 8 week program, participants will learn how to . . .
- increase awareness around the act of eating, noticing details about when, where, what and why
- slow down and savor mindfully
- identify the eight hunger centers
- increase awareness around various appetite needs and how to detect them
- identify alternative nourishing behaviors
- make mindful choices with food options
- discover preconceptions around food and build healthier models, and
- bring mindfulness to various aspects of the eating process.
Participants will also receive a free copy of the book on which the program is based.
Just in time to support themselves as we enter into the holiday season!
Dates: Tuesdays, October 11th- Dec 6th.
Fee: $350 (only $44 per 2 hour class)
