Mind-Building Exhibition

The Embassy of Finland in Washington DC is located in a beautiful building that blends into its lush natural surroundings, embodying Finnish architecture. The building is designed to feel like a miniature Finland – green, modern and transparent. We take great pride in being the first Platinum LEED certified embassy in the United States. In addition to housing the diplomatic mission of Finland to the U.S., the embassy plays host to a number of public and private events.

Mind-Building, Exhibition on Finnish libraries and library architectureThe Embassy of Finland is hosting the exhibition “Mind-Building” from January 28 until June 14, 2020. Mind-Building presents Finnish public libraries and library architecture throughout time. The exhibition will be open for public every first Tuesday of the month from February until June from 4 pm to 7 pmStay tuned for events the Embassy will organize in 2020 in connection with the exhibition. More information on these will follow.March 3 Documentaries Tale of a library (28 mins, Subtitles in English) and humorous Why these Finnish libraries are the best in the world (8 mins, In English) will be screened at 4 pm, 5 pm and 6 pmApril 7 CANCELLEDMay 5 CANCELLEDJune 2 CANCELLEDThe exhibition speaks for active citizenship, freedom of speech, equality, inclusion and civic engagement promoted by the library movement and the power of architecture to be uplifting and welcoming. Local librarians and architects of library buildings can be described as mind-builders. We celebrate public libraries as constantly rejuvenating hubs of social vitality and their role as public investments in a free and democratic society. They are noncommercial public spaces, which are open for everyone, free for everyone, belonging to everyone and used for everyone’s benefit. Mind-Building was originally commissioned and produced by Archinfo Finland for the pavilion of Finland at the Biennale Architettura 2018 in Venice. No RSVPs or ticket needed, walk-ins welcomed. Please have a photo ID with you for our security. Do take note, that no big bags are allowed on premises.
