This first event of the 2017 season follows directly after the last talk of 2016 in which Diana West investigated with us the means and consequences of the Marxist corruption of the foundations of Western civilization and of the US in particular. This current event, featuring Dr Mike Adams, is a more in-depth view of the ways Marxist ideologies have been implanted into our educational system. Mike Adams is an equal opportunity critiquer of politically correct and totalitarian positions that he encounters in his position as a faculty member at a major North Carolina University. These insights give us a ground-level understanding of current Marxist academic control of student and faculty life and teaching. Issues he has discussed include safe spaces, trigger warnings, same-sex marriage, politically correct segregation, gun control, and Black Lives Matter, among other issues.
Dr Adams is professor of Sociology and Criminology, having been awarded his PhD in 1993 from Mississippi State University. He joined the faculty at UNC Wilmington and was awarded Professor of the year for both 1998 and 2000, in addition to numerous service awards. He applied for promotion to Professor in 2006, by which time he was also writing articles in public interest journals. His promotion was denied on the basis of the nature of his outside writings. Supported by the Alliance Defending Freedom, he filed a law suit. Eventually in 2014 the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit found that UNCW had illegally retaliated against Adams when it denied him a promotion in 2006 because of his conservative views and ordered full restitution. Since then he has continued in a stellar research and teaching capacity at UNCW. Some of the classes he currently teaches include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Law of Evidence, First Amendment and Crime, and Criminal Procedure.
A much-appreciated book of his is: "Letters to a Young Progressive: How to Avoid Wasting Your Life Protesting Things you Don't Understand". Mike S. Adams, 2013.
An earlier description of turmoil on campuses is: "Welcome to the Ivory Tower of Babel: Confessions of a Conservative College Professor", Mike S Adams, 2004.
