  • How to enrich on rainy days, hot days, build confidence in shy dogs, dogs with medical injuries, senior dogs and reactive dogs.

  • Mik will also talk about how to incorporate daily play with your dog- interactive games, hide and seek, toy drive, etc.

  • Low cost enrichment with high end results.

Shy Dog

High Arousal

Mik Moeller's Bio

Mik is a professional certified dog trainer. He worked at the San Francisco SPCA as the canine behavior specialist for 18 years. He has his CPDT-KA and his CBCC –KA certifications. He is a recognized expert in dog-dog aggression. His skill in reading dog body language and working with dogs is well known and respected among his peers. His leadership in the training field is reflected in his committed efforts toward improving the quality of life for dogs and building stronger bonds between dogs and their owners. He advocates reward-based positive reinforcement training techniques backed up by the latest science.

He recently moved to Arizona and is currently working at the Arizona Humane Society as the Canine Behavior/Welfare Specialist.

Mik graduated from the renowned San Francisco SPCA Dog Training Academy in 1999 and was awarded special certification for dog-dog aggression in 2002 by Jean Donaldson. Mik frequently writes articles and lectures both nationally and internationally on leash reactivity, canine body language, dog play, off leash dog aggression, dog park etiquette and how to work with shy/fearful dogs. He also developed and taught the Reactive Rover dog training classes.

SAN FRANCISCO SPCA

Mik worked full time as the canine behavior specialist at the SF SPCA. He was instrumental in developing intake criteria and evaluations for dogs that enter the SPCA. He is considered an expert in developing shelter dog’s off leash play skills and rehabilitating dogs that are not comfortable being off leash in a group setting. He was also instrumental in developing a shy dog playgroup and behavior modification program. Mik also co-wrote a Volunteer Internship Program at the SF SPCA. The Program, which has been successfully implemented at the SPCA, is designed to teach volunteers how to install appropriate behaviors in shelter dogs to improve their chances of being adopted.

An excellent instructor, Mik has taught basic as well as advanced public classes at the SF SPCA for over ten years. He personally developed the curriculum of ‘Reactive Rover’ classes to help teach the public the skills required to manage and rehabilitate dogs that are reactive to other dogs on leash. And then he went on to develop an advanced Reactive Rover class to help build on the student’s skills and continue to provide a supportive environment.

ARIZONA HUMANE SOCIETY

Mik currently works at the Arizona Humane Society as the Canine Welfare Specialist. He has developed enrichment programs for the shelter dogs and works behavior modification plans for the behavior dogs. He also teaches the Reactive Rover classes. The first of these classes to be taught in the history of the Arizona Humane Society.

DOG WALKING ACADEMY

Mik is a co-founder of the Dog Walking Academy at DogTEC. He helped Veronica Boutelle of DogTEC develop the concept and curriculum for the Dog Walking Academy and the Advanced Dog Walking Academy. These academies are run across the USA and provide certification for professional dog walkers.

BOOK

Mik has written a book entitled Reactive Rover - An Owner’s Guide to On Leash Aggression, to help owners learn how to manage their dogs reactivity when they see another dog while on leash. It helps owners understand why dogs bark or lunge at other dogs on leash, and it gives owners tools to manage their dog's behavior and teach them an alternate behavior to barking and lunging on leash. The book comes with an instructional DVD that provides a visual aid for owners to actually see a demonstration of the training exercises taught in the book. Mik is currently working on the 2nd edition of his book.

VIDEOS

Mik has produced 3 instructional videos, which have been released by Tawzer videos. The videos cover how to teach clients to deal with reactivity in a private training environment, by way of day training and through group classes.

SEMINARS

Mik has lectured in Spain and England and was the keynote speaker at the APDT conference in New Zealand and Australia. He also consults with shelters and gives workshops and trainings on behavior modification and kennel enrichment for shelter dogs
