These small group interactive workshops provide midwives with the opportunity to refine their perineal support and suturing skills in a supportive environment under the direction of an expert. Focus is on prevention of tissue trauma during birth, along with efficient and effective instrument handling when suturing is needed. Midwives are offered an opportunity to develop competence and confidence, while learning techniques to minimize tissue trauma, decrease wound closure time, and prevent sharps injuries. The workshops include discussion, demonstration, simulation and self-evaluation.
The knot-tying and suturing workshop includes technical aspects of knot-tying, handling of suturing instruments, and suturing techniques using suture and foam models.
The perineal support and repair workshop includes relevant anatomy, techniques and skills used to maintain tissue integrity, appropriate assessment, application of aseptic technique, and simulation of specific closures using tissue models.
This workshop is open to midwives of all background and skill levels. Fee includes instruments and practice model. ACNM Program #2014/075.
