Midmorning Social Presented by Orange Element
Event Information
Description
It’s not about work. It’s about what makes you better at working.
Midmorning Social is a speakers series presented by Orange Element.
We track down leaders in Baltimore's business, technology, and arts/culture scene and invite them to talk about the unexpected ways they find inspiration. Then, we offer attendees a casual forum to meet and mingle, network and nosh, and talk about what they've learned. It's all over by 10:30 and we think it's a heck of a way to start a day.
Each speaker is limited to 20 minutes and each talk must be about something unexpected that he/she finds inspirational or useful to his/her work. Speakers are not allowed to talk business – it has to be personal.
First up on May 31 is Mike Subelsky, an entrepreneur, technologist, and leader in Baltimore's emerging tech scene. Mike is, among other things, the co-founder of Ignite Baltimore, Baltimore Hackathon, and Baltimore Improv Group. Here's what he'll be talking about:
I plan to talk in concrete, specific terms about the deeply personal vision that guides my work as a programmer, technology advocate, and entrepreneur. I'm pretty obsessed with process and making gradual improvements in process, combined with big experiments, to help me succeed in my professional and family roles. Time permitting I'll touch on some or all of these topics: GTD, blogging, Ruby, test-driven development, Beeminder, physical fitness, inbox zero, meditation, psychotherapy, how to make yourself more interested and interesting, questing, the book Godel, Escher, Bach, leadership, what I learned from being in the Navy, and more!!
You won't want to miss it!
