Come celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival with Hung Tao Choy Mei Leadership Institute (HTCMLI)! Our students will be performing traditional Chinese lion dancing, Jow Ga Kung Fu demonstrations, and synchronized drumming.


Light food and beverages will be served.


Curious about how a Southern Chinese kung fu school grew to be an long-standing icon on U Street? Come hear Sifu Abdur-Rahim Muhammad talk about how he got involved with martial arts and why he decided to set up his school in historic U Street.


More about HTCMLI:


HTCMLI has taught and preserved traditional Southern Chinese kung fu for 20 years on U Street. The school provides an after school kung fu lessons for children ages 5-18 free of charge. HTCMLI’s martial arts and dance activities engage at-risk youth in understanding how physical fitness, mental steadfastness, and eating habits impacts one’s potential for success.


One of HTCMLI broader community missions is to provides a unique cultural bridge between the Asian and African American communities through martial arts. Our school has performed Lion and Dragon dance in large venues and events, such as the Kennedy Center and the U Street Funk Parade respectively, as well as at intimate gatherings including Chinese weddings and Lunar New Year events.
