Event description

Description

East Coast Regional Grip Strength Event.

Four contested implements:

1) Double Barrel one handed lift (FBBC)

2) Iron Mind Deep Hub

3) 2 hand MKII Tip Tester (Barrel Strength)

4) Double overhand Axel Deadlift (Black Widow Bar)

RULES:

Deep Hub (Iron Mind)

  • Only the Hub is to be grasped. To keep this lift within the spirit of the Hub Lift (proper ‘claw’ style), only the fingertips of the thumb, index and middle fingers are to grasp the Hub. The fingertips are the distal phalanges. The other two fingers may oppose, or not be on at all. These are the fingers that grasp slightly slanted.

  • The apparatus is lifted to complete lock out.

  • There is no referee’s signal. You do not have to be erect upon completion. You must lower the weight under control (hand grasping it all the way down). If the top accidentally touches the bar before the weight itself, referee’s discretion will be used to judge whether the correct height was attained.

  • You must not intentionally tilt the apparatus to gain leverage.

DOUBLE BARREL (FBBC):

    • The implement will be capable to be set with both hands, but upon lifting, only one hand will be allowed to touch device. The thumb is to be on one side and all 4 phalanges will be on opposing side.

    • At initiation of lift, the implement must be parallel to the ground, no tilting towards fingers or thumb on initiation of lift will be allowed. After the lift has begun, if the implement tilts, it will be ok.

    • The implement is lifted until the marker jutting out of the bottom (at 6.5" from the floor) touches a horizontal bar placed at 16.5", measured from the underside of the bar to the floor. This allows a 10" lift.

2H MKII Tips Tester (Barrel Strength):

  • The implement must be fixed to the loading pin using the quick release pin.

  • The athlete must lift the implement by grasping the round tube, being sure not to wrap the hand(s) around the flange, and touch the height indicator to the crossbar, which is set for a 6” lift. The 6" distance from indicator to crossbar must be demonstrated in the video using a ruler or tape measure. The lifter does not have to be erect upon completion of the attempt. If a crossbar is not used, the weight must be lifted to lockout or to a height demonstrably higher than 6".

  • The lifter must lower the weight under control. Use of any grip aids besides magnesium carbonate chalk is not permitted. Any alteration of the gripping surface of the device is not permitted.

Double over hand Axel deadlift (Black widow):

  • The athlete will approach the bar and place both hands, palms facing athlete (double over hand). The lift will begin only when the weight has left the ground or when unable to break implement from the floor.

  • The lift is successfully completed when the athlete is fully erect position and thereby given the down signal by the center judge. Hitching (setting the bar in a static position on the thigh) will nullify the lift. Any negative motion on initiating the lift, will nullify the life.

  • The bar must be placed back to the floor in control, it cannot "slip" from athletes hands.

Pertaining to the competition in general:

  • This competition is 100% RAW. No belts, no straps, no wraps, or any equipment will be allowed. Carbonate Chalk provided by Maizels Training Hall, will be the only hand supplement allowed.
