Description

September is Microplastics Awareness Month! Join Lara, your local Natural Resources Agent for UF/IFAS Extension Pinellas County, for an educational afternoon exploring microplastics and what we can do about them!

Agenda:

  1. Introduction to microplastics
  2. Film Screening: STRAWS (Screening made possible thanks to 1 Piece Each)
  3. Film discussion and Q & A
  4. Citizen Science Workshop

Citizen Science Workshop details: Contribute to a relatively new field of science by getting involved in the Florida Microplastic Awareness Project. Lara will walk participants through the process of collecting, filtering, and analyzing a water sample for the presence of microplastics. She will also showcase how to enter data into online database. Interested participants can sign-out a sample bottle to collect their first real-world sample and then bring it back in to filter and analyze. Participants are highly encouraged to explore our website to be best prepared for this hands-on workshop: www.plasticaware.org

Recommended for Adults, but interested youth are welcome to attend.
