Event description

Description

Microaggression occurs when people are put down through comments that a person may not see as derogatory to other cultures, races, and genders. It's the everyday banter that most people are unaware may offend or insult their peers.

Join us as we expand our minds and become more aware of our words and actions, we aspire to bring everyday interactions to a higher level of awareness.

The Diversity Forum, The Employer’s Association, and Atrium Health invite guest lecturer Brandon Risher, M.A., L.P.A., HSP-PA to discuss microaggression in the workplace.

Brandon is a clinical psychologist in Charlotte, North Carolina. He works as a psychologist and associate director of a private practice group serving a variety of populations, including adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families.

Brandon has worked for several community-based mental health organizations that assist low income families with their mental health needs. Brandon is passionate about meeting the needs of under-served communities.

He has spoken about various socio-political issues on national media network platforms, including ABC & PBS news, Good Morning America, and PBS. Mr. Risher also has a monthly news segment WBTV Saturday morning show tackling various aspects of mental health.

Brandon lost his grandmother, Ethel Lance, on June 17, 2015, as a victim in the Mother Emanuel 9-a racially motivated massacre. Through his mourning he combined his grief and pain and his expertise as a psychologist to educate others on the importance of grief counseling and is an advocate for the importance of diversity within institutions.

The HR Certification Institute has pre-approved this activity for 2.0 HR (General) recertification credits towards the PHR, SPHR, GPHR, and PHRca certifications. The content of the activity submitted has met the criteria of the Approved Provider Program.
