Michigan Mud 2019 is brought to you in collaboration with the Michigan Ceramic Art Association (MCAA) and Oakland Community College. This day-long conference will be held on the campus of Oakland Community College Auburn Hills. This biennial event is open to the public and features the nationally renowned artist – Julia Galloway. Also offered will be demonstrations and lectures by regional ceramic artists, a student show, vendor tables and the opportunity to network with the state’s vibrant ceramics community.

Featured Keynote Speaker: Julia Galloway is a professor and the Director of the School of Art at the University of Montana-Missoula. Julia has exhibited across the United States, Canada, and Asia and her work is included in the collections of the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Museum, Washington DC, Long Beach Art Museum, Long Beach CA, and the Ceramics Research Center at the Arizona State Art Museum, among many others. Julia will discuss the state of ceramics today and provide illuminating demonstrations in throwing/handbuilding combinations, handles and spouts and surface decoration.

Paul Kotula, Associate Professor of Ceramics at Michigan State University, will present an art lecture on the John A. Sinker, Jr. Ceramics Teaching Collection

Presenter Exhibition and Artist Reception: Please join us from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM for this exhibition and reception, co-hosted and curated by the MCAA and the Holding House. The event will be held at the Holding House, an artist-run work space in Core City, Detroit, that offers equitable art access to the community through multi-disciplinary, inter-cultural art experiences and exhibitions.
