Michigan-I-O Concert for Tulip Time
Event Information
About this event
Tonight you'll hear what the lumberjacks, ore miners, and sailors of Michigan sang about, be immersed in their stories and see a glimpse of what they saw.
In the late 19th century Michigan led the nation's lumbering industry, exporting billions of board feet each year. The shanty boys who got the work done spent their whole winter chopping and felling trees, and in the spring they took to the rivers. And they sang as they worked. Oh, they sang.
They wrote hundreds of songs that we know about. Many were never written down.
In 2019 Michigan-I-O released their first album of reimagined folk songs. Tonight they announce a second full album of reimagined folk songs from Michigan's past: Michigan-I-O vol. II: Once More a-Lumbering Go.
The songs were always good. The band is better than ever. Come on out and listen—or sing along!
