March 16, 2019

We know you care deeply about birds and their habitat so why not join us and other conservation-minded individuals on March 16, 2019, at the Michigan Audubon Annual Member Meeting for a chance to share ideas with one another and make more connections for birds! This event is open to all Michigan Audubon members but space is limited so register early if you would like to attend!

The day’s events will feature Keynote Bill Rapai presenting on Kirtland's Warbler conservation efforts, an interactive conversation about moving towards a bird-friendly Michigan, an optional bird walk in the morning, and other Michigan Audubon business such as voting on MA board members. Network over lunch and make the connections that will help us all be of greater benefit to birds in our state.

There is a $15 registration fee. Lunch and happy hour are included. You must be an active Michigan Audubon member to attend. Please email membership@michiganaudubon.org or call 517-580-7364 if you have questions about your membership status. To join Michigan Audubon or to renew your membership, click here.

Registration opens January 21, 2019.

Schedule of events:

8:30 a.m. | Pre-event — Bird walk on the trails at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center
The walk is free, but please be sure to register so we can have enough guides on hand.

10 – 11 a.m. | Check-in at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center

11 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Welcome and Michigan Audubon Presentation
Learn about current Michigan Audubon projects and programs, advocacy policies, and more.

12 – 1 p.m. | Break for lunch
Take some time to network, enjoy the trails, and grab a bite to eat. Lunch is included and is served buffet style at the conference center.

1 – 2:30 p.m. | Breakout session: Bird-Friendly Communities & Moving Towards a Bird-Friendly Michigan
This interactive session serves to promote dialogue about the BFC program by breaking into smaller groups. Each party will be assisted by a Michigan Audubon staff or board member who will share information about the program and take note of the unique needs you see your community needing to make this program successful.

2:30 – 4 p.m. | Keynote Presentation: Kirtland’s Warbler Conservation by Bill Rapai
Bill Rapai is chair of the Kirtland’s Warbler Alliance and author of The Kirtland’s Warbler; The Story of a Bird’s Fight Against Extinction and the People Who Saved It, published in 2013. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recommended in a five-year review completed in 2012 that the Kirtland’s Warbler be downlisted from “endangered” to “threatened.” Bill Rapai shares the history and victory of this conservation story and what delisting this bird from the endangered species list means for both this bird and the collaborative network of conservationists who have banded together to ensure this species’ recovery.

4 – 5:30 p.m. | Social Hour
Light snacks, beer, wine, and beverages will be provided as you enjoy the company of fellow Michigan Audubon members.
