Event description

Description

In collaboration with Tyler’s Fibers and Material Studies and Photography programs, Michèle Pearson Clarke, a Trinidad born artist, based in Toronto, who works in film, video, and installation will be offering an evening lecture. Pearson Clarke’s work explores the personal and political of longing and loss. In a social practice project, Clarke hosted a series of public conversations, readings, and workshops with Mercer Union faculty members about transformative justice. An early work titled Black Men and Me is an experimental documentary where a woman explores her complicated relationship with men as a Trinidadian dyke, in a barbershop. Clarke’s recent work, A Welcome Weight On My Body, depicts black domesticity, family, and intimacy as the artist tries to rectify the historical problematic relationship between photography and blackness. Pearson Clarke will be participating in a residency with graduate students in Fibers and Material Studies and Photography.
