MICHEAUX FILM FESTIVAL 2020: REVENGE OF THE DREAMERS

FESTIVAL SCHEDULE:

Day 1: Friday, Feb 21st - Opening Night

(1000 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015)

Join us as we open the festival with a series of short films that will kick off the weekend.

Opening Night: The Big Bang

We open our second year the only way we know how, with a bang! This program will provide thought-provoking shorts, sure to make you laugh, cry and everything in between.

Regal Cinemas LA Live from 7:00pm - 9:30pm.

Suggested Attire: Elegant Chic + GQ

Kick-off After Party: The Queensberry (819 S Flower St Los Angeles, CA 90015)

Day 2: Saturday, Feb 22nd - Shorts Programs

Each Shorts Program will feature an hour of films. Make sure to buy your tickets for the blocks you'd like to attend. Or you have the option to buy an all-access day pass! Screenings are from 11am - 10pm.

Program 1: EMERGING VOICES (11a)

Stories told from students or first time filmmakers who share their perspective of society and the world we live in today.

Program 2: PAST MEETS PRESENT (12:15p)

The shorts in this program showcase characters who are confronted by issues of the past, or work hard not to bring their past into the present.

Program 3: CAN I GET MY THRILLS (1:30p)

Filled with suspense and fear, you never know what darkness lies around the corner... or within.

Program 4: CUFFING SEASON (2:30p)

You won't go wrong by swiping right on these films that center around what the heart wants.

Program 5: LOCKED & LOADED (3:35p)

Guns, and swords, and blood. Oh my! This shorts program introduces us to imaginations of worlds far away and realities right down the street.

Program 6: THE PRICE OF PERSEVERANCE (4:50p)

The road to success is filled with trials and failure... But what happens when you refuse to give up?

Program 7: HASHTAG FACTS (5:45p)

Documentaries that aim to change your perspective of the world and enlighten the way we view our differences.

Program 8: BREAKING DOWN THE WALLS (7:00p)

Some walls are meant to be destroyed, not built. This program will explore the physical and emotional roadblocks that hold us back.

Program 9: LET'S TALK ABOUT SEX, BABY (8:30p)

Hide ya kids, hide ya wife. And if all else fails, resort to Plan B. Matters of sex aren't always what they appear to be.

Program 10: 'BOUT THAT ACTION (9:45p)

In this program of films, you must be the change that you're so desperately hoping for.

Networking mixer: The Queensberry (819 S Flower St Los Angeles, CA 90015)

Immediately after the last film screens on Saturday night head to our free networking mixer (RSVP required) held at The Queensberry. Located 5 mins from Regal Cinemas. The mixer will be held from 9pm-11pm but you're welcome to hang out as long as you'd like.

Day 3: Sunday, Feb 23rd - Industry Master Classes: Regal Cinemas at LA Live

Hone your craft at our Master Class panels as industry experts guide you through a series of technical classes - from the inception of an idea, character development and writing techniques, through production and post-production to marketing and distribution of your film. This is a workshop that no filmmaker should miss (11am-5pm).

11:15am - WRITING FOR FILM - Breaking down the basics and fundamental aspects of storytelling in film: character creation and development, plot development, writing structure and technique. This class will also cover formatting a screenplay, outlining a screenplay, and the importance of the first 10 pages. (Sponsored By Final Draft)

12:15pm - RAISING CAPITAL - One of the biggest challenges that comes with pre production is having the capital to fund the project and the various departments that necessitate financial aid: permits, crew, production equipment, etc. This master class will provide attendees with strategic fundraising mechanisms in order to make the production and post production process seamless. (Sponsored by Seed & Spark)

1:30pm - CINEMATOGRAPHY - This masterclass will be an in-depth workshop analyzing large format cinematography, the fundamental function of lenses and the history of motion pictures. (Sponsored by Panavision)

2:45pm - EDITING / POST PRODUCTION - Using the industry-leading video editing software for film, TV, and the web ‘’Adobe Premiere,” this master class will provide a comprehensive understanding of video editing and the endless possibilities filmmakers can utilize to bring their story to life.

4:00pm - MARKETING + DISTRIBUTION - Now that you have a film you’re proud of, how do you go about getting the world to see it? This master class will teach attendees the importance of marketing a project and finding a distribution outlet.

Awards Ceremony: Regal Cinemas at LA Live

To conclude the festival we will honor outstanding films and the filmmakers who worked diligently to produce their projects. In addition, we will present two special honorees with recognition for their contributions to the entertainment and artistic community. The awards ceremony is from 6:30pm-8pm and will conclude the festival schedule. You don't want to miss it! (Registration required)

Parking: LA Live garage parking is $8 with validation (for the first 4 hours). Street parking is also available. The lot directly across the street from Regal Cinemas offers all day parking. (No in and outs.)
