Mic Conway 50th Anniversay tour- From Captain Matchbox and Circus Oz to today

This year, Vaudevillian Mic Conway Celebrates 50 years as a performer, which all started with Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band, originally called Jelly Bean Jug Band in 1968 at Camberwell High School. It's also 40 years since Mic co-founded Circus Oz and its been 21 years for Mic with his current outfit National Junk Band. The 50th Anniversary show has a taste of Mic's career throughout, right through to now with his Donald Trump ventriloquist doll. Music, mayhem, magic, juggling, fire and mirth are thrown together to create this unique show.

Mic Conway will be teaming up with guitar virtuoso Matthew Fagan aka Lord of the Strings for a whirlwind tour throughout Victoria who is also opening the show.

Conway’s show features hilarious and quirky tunes that make jaws drop, toes tap and sides split including some Captain Matchbox favourites like “My Canary Has Circles Under His Eyes” as well as a swag of Conway including "Jug Band Man" (which was featured on Spicks and Specks, September 2011). “Perfectly pitched… In one tune he was able to pack in a lifetime of Cabaret.” : Roy & H.G., ABC TV.

There's juggling, illusion, cavorting and Conway's trademark tongue-in-cheek humour ... This is Mic the crooner – inspired by Al Bowlly, The Ink Spots, Fats Waller and the Hoosier Hotshots. Some classic tin pan melodies, some bizarre originals. The show is surreal vaudeville with a sense of humour. Croon to melt your ears.

Born into a family of vaudevillians and opera singers, Conway's life as an entertainer began in the 1970s as lead singer in Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band which became a cult phenomenon, recording seven records, two of which achieved gold status. The band has recently appeared on Classic Countdown re-runs. Here is a link to My Wahine in Wangaratta on Countdown in 1975 http://bit.ly/2nejohN. Wearing several hats, Conway is now the leader of the 5-piece jug and blues act Mic Conway’s National Junk Band and is a long-term children’s entertainer, touring his extraordinary one man shows to over 200 schools and community events across Australia each year.

A favourite at folk and blues festivals, in 2011 Conway was awarded “Artist of the Year” by Port Fairy Folk Festival. His duo show with Matthew Fagan is not to be missed!

Internationally acclaimed all-round 10 String Spanish Guitarist Matthew Fagan aka Lord of the Strings performs with eclectic instruments and a dry wit sharpened on the international touring circuit, not least with Billy Connolly, The Original Buena Vista Social Club, Michael Crawford and Shirley Bassey.

The 53 night tour with Billy Connolly was so successful that Billy presented Matthew with one of his prize liberty banjos at the end of the tour and was quoted saying

"Matthew is the best guest artist I have ever toured with." Billy Connolly

Matthew takes you on a vibrant musical journey with a magical repertoire that crosses from Blues to Flamenco, Rock to Classical, Gypsy Jazz to Celtic Music. Also hear Matthew’s virtuosic hit rendition of J S Bach’s Toccata on Steel String Guitar which featured on ABC TV.

Come and celebrate with Mic and Matthew a career that has taken Mic all over the country and the world ,without having to drive taxis or wait on tables-extraordinary!
