Description

Purpose: To introduce delivery care providers to MI AIM and maternal patient safety bundles for integration into UP birthing hospital practice.

Program Overview: Michigan's Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (MI AIM) is part of a nation-wide effort to eliminate preventable maternal mortality and severe morbidity by implementing evidence-based maternal safety and quality improvement initiatives. This program will familiarize providers of delivery care with MI AIM and, specifically, two Patient Safety bundles that represent a “Michigan-take” on the national protocols. Attendees will learn best practices in what hospital policies and clinical practice should include to provide appropriate care for obstetric hemorrhage and hypertension. Additionally, attendees will leave with an action plan for implementing AIM Patient Safety Bundles. Topics include:

  • Overview of MI AIM Structure and Strategies
  • Overview of Hypertension and Obstetric Hemorrhage Patient Safety Bundles
  • Patient Safety Bundle Implementation

  • Lynette Biery, PA-C, MSc | Director, MDHHS Bureau of Family Health Services
  • Dr. Casey Sager, MD | OSF St. Francis Hospital Medical Group
  • Dr. Alissa Carver, MD | University of Michigan Obstetrics and Gynecology; part of the team of Maternal & Fetal Medicine specialists that regularly visits the UP
  • Mary Schubert | Executive Director, Munson Healthcare Women's and Children's Services

  • Birthing Hospital Physicians
  • Birthing Hospital Nurses
  • Mid-Wives and other practitioners involved in the provision of delivery care
  • Administrators with patient safety, care quality and policy setting responsibilities

Cost: FREE.

Continuing Education: The McLaren Greater Lansing, is accredited by the Michigan State Medical Society Committee on CME Accreditation to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The McLaren Greater Lansing designates this educational activity for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Light refreshments will be provided.
