Event description

Description

Location: Bozeman
Miles/Difficulty: 9 miles/Strenuous
Leaders: John Parker and Patty Bartholomew

This hike will traverse the foothills between the North and South Forks of Spanish Creek. The primary focus of this slow paced trip will be to observe and listen for birds. This is the peak of the breeding season for year-round resident and neotropic migrant birds. Moving through a variety of habitats including riparian, sage grasslands, open aspen stands, and conifer forests we should see a good cross section of birds that breed in the mountains of southwestern Montana. Beside looking for birds such as Yellow-rumped Warbler, Green-tailed Towhee, Western Tanager, and Dusky Grouse we will able to enjoy some spectacular country. We will meet at the museum at 6:45 for carpooling. This trip will last till at least mid afternoon. Be prepared for a day outdoors with all the necessary food, water, rain gear, and a pair of binoculars would be very helpful.

Meet at The Museum of the Rockies.
