Event description

Description

Location: Big Sky
Miles/Difficulty: 9 miles/Extremely Strenuous
Leaders: Tom Ross and Lisa Lenard

This is an interestingly varied hike from a remote, unmarked trailhead along the South Fork Swan Creek east to a junction with the Gallatin Crest Trail and then on to tiny Crater Lake, nestled along the crest with beautiful views and within the Hyalite Porcupine Buffalo Horn WSA. Steady elevation gain from thick forest to open meadows with several small stream crossings. Most of this route is not maintained and may require some some scrambling around downed trees. Bear spray is a must.

Meet at parking lot behind Buffalo Jump Sports Bar on Hwy. 191 and Cottonwood Road in Gallatin Gateway, MT
