Description

Register today! This workshop is limited to 12 participants.

Filmmaker and location sound recordist Aaron Boothroyd returns to the MFA with this exciting, hands-on follow-up to his intro location sound workshop. This Intermediate Level Hands-On Location Sound Workshop covers the fundamentals of professional field recording techniques. Students will receive detailed instruction on how to use different types of location audio recorders, boom and lav microphones, boom poles, and wireless systems. Proper techniques will be demonstrated for boom-pole operation, field mixing, and lavalier placement. The workshop will delve into wild tracks, room tone, sound etiquette, and how to professionally interact with talent, directors, and camera operators.

Postproduction software options and techniques will be explored. Examples will be given on how to properly organize, label, and export audio files. Concepts such as synching, EQ, compression, limiters, and effects will be covered.

Whether you’re relatively new to field recording, or you’re just looking to increase your knowledge of professional practices and techniques, this hands-on location sound workshop has something for everyone.

No previous location sound recording experience is necessary to participate. However, a familiarity with basic audio equipment and recording techniques is recommended.

Workshop participants are encouraged to bring their own field recording equipment, allowing us to explore and answer questions about a specific piece of gear.
