Event description

Description

Celebrating 26 years of enhancing the diversity of the legal profession through education will be the goal of the Mexican American Bar Foundation at the organization’s upcoming Annual Scholarship & Awards Gala. The black-tie optional event is set for Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.

Our Guests of Honor include: The Honorable Terry J. Hatter Jr., Chief Judge Emeritus, United States District Court (Precursor de Justicia/Pioneer for Justice Award), Antonio De Cardenas for and on behalf of Cacique U.S.A. (Latino Entrepreneur Award), Zoila Escobar, Senior Vice President at AltaMed and President of the AltaMed Foundation (Community Service Award), and Rita Morales, Associate General Counsel and Vice President at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc (Professional Achievement Award).

With tuition starting in the $45,000 range for public and private institutions alike, law school is expensive. That is why, since our founding in 1991, the Foundation has awarded over $2.3 million, mostly in the form of 404 scholarships to 336 individual law students, plus stipends to graduates studying for the California Bar Exam. In 2016 alone, our 25th year, MABF awarded 25 scholarships and 36 bar stipends totaling over $280,000. Our scholars are selected based on their academic achievement, community service, leadership, financial need, and success in overcoming hardships. Most of them are the daughters and sons of low-income immigrants. They are the first members of their families to go to college, much less professional school. They attend ABA-accredited law schools in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

We operate without full-time staff, fancy offices, or expense accounts. In fact, less than 15 percent of Foundation revenue is spent on overhead.

Tables of ten are available at the following levels: Foundation Partner, including two premium tables, plus two scholarships named for the sponsor and a program advertisement ($25,000); Event Co-Sponsor, including two premium tables, plus one scholarship named for the sponsor and a program advertisement ($15,000); and Platinum Sponsor ($10,000) and Gold Sponsor ($5,000), each of which includes one premium table and a program advertisement.
