新年快乐! Join us for our annual lunar New Year voyage to Mexicali, Baja California’s capital city and the home of Mexico's highest per-capita population of Chinese immigrants.
Tickets include roundtrip private transport from Tijuana, a guided museum tour and lecture on the history of city's Chinese community at the Asociación China de Mexicali, a walking tour of Mexicali's original subterranean Chinatown, a visit to a Chinese market and Chinese cemetery and Mexicali-style Chinese food for dinner.
Given the added distance, we'll be forgoing our usual bus transportation for a van with room for 13.
The group meets at the San Ysidro trolley station at 7 a.m., with an estimated return to the border at 8 p.m.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
This is an all-ages tour. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Passports are mandatory regardless of age.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
We strongly recommend taking the San Diego trolley, as parking lots often costly – some charge up to $25US for eight hours – and often full. On weekends the last downtown-bound trolley departs San Ysidro at 12:58 a.m. More info at sdmts.com.
If driving, take either Interstate 5 or 805 south and get off at the last exit, but be careful not to miss that last exit and actually cross into Mexico. Park at any of the lots – we recommend the ones next to Jack in the Box, a left at the exit and a right at the next light – but give yourself 20-30 minutes because, again, lots are often full.
