To mark 90 years of the sci-fi classic, Metropolis is receiving a very special screening at Newcastle’s St Nicholas Cathedral, with support from neighbouring historic landmark Newcastle Castle.
Boasting a live electronic soundtrack performed by Gateshead’s Old Police House Collective, this will be a futuristic birthday bash like no other.
With its dizzying depiction of a futuristic cityscape and alluring female robot, Metropolis is the most famous silent film of all time. Directed by the legendary Fritz Lang, its jaw-dropping production values, iconic imagery, and modernist grandeur remain just as powerful as in 1927.
The 150-minute version is being shown courtesy of Eureka Entertainment, with an introduction analysing Metropolis' seismic influence on popular culture over the last 90 years.
