Metro is hosting a series of Regional Summits to support the Countywide Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Initiative, which supports, promotes, expands, and encourages collaboration among SRTS efforts in Los Angeles County including walking, bicycling, carpooling and transit for school travel, serving to expand mobility choice and improve health and safety of children and their families.

• Assess the state of school and youth travel within Los Angeles County
• Identify resource and capacity needs
• Foster successful implementation and sustainable program growth

• Identify activities, programs, and responsibilities as part of a Regional SRTS Program
• Match specific partner organizations with feasible and implementable activities and programs
• Increase local capacity and knowledge for implementation of SRTS and related programs
• Identify short-, mid-, and long-term strategies for implementation, which will be incorporated into Metro’s Active Transportation Strategic Plan
• Identify strategies to increase competitiveness of Los Angeles County for successful grant funding opportunities in the future

We seek diverse viewpoints and discussion about how to get more people involved and integrated into Metro’s
Countywide SRTS efforts. Participants would include safe routes to school program practitioners. and others
involved in youth travel, injury prevention, safety education, or environmental education, all of which have elements that intersect with the core focus of SRTS.
