Event description
A choral exploration of life's cycles, and a reflection on how recent challenges have brought about evolutions big and small.

About this event

METAMORPHOSIS is a digital concert production by the L.A. Choral Lab. Enjoy newly produced digital choral performances, standards and favorites from our concert archive, and live, in-home musical acts by L.A. Choral Lab singers.

The title track on this concert is Metamorphosis, a newly commissioned work for virtual choir by Los Angeles-based composer/songwriter Genevieve Artadi, featuring the personal stories of four individuals: a frontline healthcare worker, a performing artist, a middle school teacher, and a high school student. Artadi explores how each has been affected by the pandemic in a different way, and she weaves these individuals' stories with choral melodies, textures, and structures to create a musical experience that both describes and is circumscribed by the increasingly digitized world in which we now live.

This concert will also feature our digital performance of Welcome Table, a new work with music and text by L.A. Choral Lab tenor Saunder Choi. Welcome Table will be presented alongside The New Colossus, a meditation on the text inscribed into the base of the Statue of Liberty that Choi wrote for the L.A. Choral Lab in 2018.

Featuring additional compositions by Paige Burke, Jeffrey Bernstein, and more.

This concert will be broadcast via YouTube.

Participants will receive further YouTube instructions and viewing suggestions closer to the performance date.

Registrants are requested to purchase the number of tickets that correspond to the number of individuals who will be viewing the livestream. Suggested donation: $10 per individual / $25 per household

This event is presented with the support of a grant from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
